Evangelization
“‘We wish to confirm once more that the task of evangelizing all people constitutes the essential mission of the Church.’ …Evangelizing is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity. She exists in order to evangelize.” (Paul VI, Evangelii Nuntiandi, No. 14)
For Pope Francis, the primary mission of the Church is evangelization. It is the duty of every Christian to evangelize. We are called to bring Jesus Christ to the people, to meet people where they are.
“Evangelizing pre-supposes a desire in the Church to come out of herself. The Church is called to come out of herself and to go to the peripheries, not only geographically, but also the existential peripheries: the mystery of sin, of pain, of injustice, of ignorance and indifference to religion, of intellectual currents, and of all misery.” (Pope Francis, Pre-conclave speech to Cardinals, March 2013)
The conclusions and recommendations of the Archdiocesan Synod Report conducted in 2022 point out the importance of empowering Catholics to evangelize using practical tools and creating more welcoming parishes through beautiful liturgies, hospitality, and ministries that encourage new pastoral leaders to step forward. The process has resulted in new programs, resources, goals and structures, all of which are bearing fruit in and through our parishes and schools.
