Catholic Youth Organization
CYO programs seek to help young men and women foster strong principles of teamwork and sportsmanship both on and off the field, all while developing their physical talents, learning to play fairly and enthusiastically, and appreciating Christ’s presence in their opponents. Through programs and training linked to parish life, CYO offers young people, coaches and their families another opportunity to work together in communion, showing the world a new vision of “competition” in sports.
CYO/OYM currently serves:
- More than 25,000 children, adolescents and young adults annually in five Maryland counties and the D.C.
- More than 1,000 sports teams (soccer, basketball, cross country, track, rugby, softball and baseball), supported by more than 2,400 adult volunteers, coaching more than 11,000 young people and
- More than 64 chartered troops, 5,000 young people and 2,000 volunteers participating in scouting, Campfire and American Heritage Girls programs.
As a nonprofit agency of the Archdiocese of Washington, the CYO of Washington, D.C., and the Metropolitan Area, Inc. is funded through the generosity of donors.
