Office of Deaf and Disabilities Ministry
This office is part of the Secretariat for Evangelization and Synodal Renewal.
The Office of Deaf and Disabilities Ministry provides pastoral care, training, workshops, advocacy, and sacramental preparation for Catholics who are Deaf or hard of hearing, blind, low vision, or Deaf and blind. This office is responsible for campus ministry at Gallaudet University, arranges for interpreters when needed by parishes, Catholic schools, or diocesan offices, and trains catechists to work with the Deaf community. The Office of Deaf and Disabilities Ministry promotes the fullness and dignity of life for persons with physical or developmental disabilities through integration in parish life and worship, support to caregivers and family members, and public advocacy for community support services. This office supports parents who receive an unexpected prenatal diagnosis, veterans with war-related injuries, and people living with mental illness or chronic illnesses.
