Church of God, elect and glorious, holy nation, chosen race; called as God’s own special people, royal priests and heirs of grace: know the purpose of your calling, show to all his mighty deeds; tell of love which knows no limits, grace which meets all human needs.
God has called you out of darkness into his most marvelous light; brought his truth to life within you, turned your blindness into sight. Let your light so shine around you that God’s name is glorified; and all find fresh hope and purpose in Christ Jesus crucified.
Once you were an alien people, strangers to God’s heart of love; but he brought you home in mercy, citizens of heaven above. Let his love flow out to others, let them feel a Father’s care; that they too may know his welcome and his countless blessings share.

The Lord God formed man out of the clay of the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and so man became a living being.
Then the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and placed there the man whom he had formed. Out of the ground the Lord God made various trees grow that were delightful to look at and good for food, with the tree of life in the middle of the garden and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the animals that the Lord God had made. The serpent asked the woman, “Did God really tell you not to eat from any of the trees in the garden?” The woman answered the serpent: “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden; it is only about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden that God said, ‘You shall not eat it or even touch it, lest you die.’” But the serpent said to the woman: “You certainly will not die! No, God knows well that the moment you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods who know what is good and what is evil.” The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes, and desirable for gaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate it; and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized that they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús fue conducido por el Espíritu al desierto, para ser tentado por el demonio. Pasó cuarenta días y cuarenta noches sin comer y, al final, tuvo hambre. Entonces se le acercó el tentador y le dijo: “Si tú eres el Hijo de Dios, manda que estas piedras se conviertan en panes”. Jesús le respondió: “Está escrito: No sólo de pan vive el hombre, sino también de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios”.
Entonces el diablo lo llevó a la ciudad santa, lo puso en la parte más alta del templo y le dijo: “Si eres el Hijo de Dios, échate para abajo, porque está escrito: Mandará a sus ángeles que te cuiden y ellos te tomarán en sus manos, para que no tropiece tu pie en piedra alguna”. Jesús le contestó: “También está escrito: No tentarás al Señor, tu Dios”.
Luego lo llevó el diablo a un monte muy alto y desde ahí le hizo ver la grandeza de todos los reinos del mundo y le dijo: “Te daré todo esto, si te postras y me adoras”. Pero Jesús le replicó: “Retírate, Satanás, porque está escrito: Adorarás al Señor, tu Dios, y a él sólo servirás”.
Entonces lo dejó el diablo y se acercaron los ángeles para servirle.

Presentation of the Catechumens // Presentación de los Catecúmenos
The catechumens, who are preparing for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist, will be presented to Cardinal Gregory.
Catechumens rise, and remain standing in place, as a representative from their parish calls their name. Catechumens and their godparents participating via livestream should stand when their name is called.
Los catecúmenos que se están preparando para los Sacramentos del Bautismo, la Confirmación y la Eucaristía, serán presentados al Cardenal Gregory.
Los catecúmenos se pondrán de pie, y permanecerán de pie, al escuchar su nombre presentando por el representante de su parroquia. Los catecúmenos y sus padrinos que participan a través de la transmisión en vivo deben ponerse de pie al escuchar su nombre.
Affirmation by the Godparents and the Assembly // Afirmación de los Padrinos y de la Asemblea
The Cardinal first questions the godparents, then the entire assembly, about the catechumens’ readiness to celebrate the sacraments at Easter.
As God is your witness, have these catechumens faithfully listened to God’s word proclaimed by the Church? Godparents R. / They have.
Have they responded to that word and begun to walk in God’s presence? Godparents R. / They have.
Have they shared the company of their Christian brothers and sisters and joined with them in prayer? Godparents R. / They have.
And now, I speak to you, my brothers and sisters in this assembly: Are you ready to support the testimony expressed about these catechumens and include them in your prayer and affection as we move toward Easter? Assembly R. / We are.
El Cardenal primero pregunta a los padrinos, después a la toda la asamblea, sobre la disposición de los catecúmenos para celebrar los Sacramentos en Pascua.
¿Han escuchado estos catecúmenos fielmente a la Palabra de Dios proclamada por la Iglesia? Padrinos R. / Sí, la han escuchado.

The Cardinal addresses the catechumens as to their intention to receive the sacraments of initiation. He concludes by asking:
Do you wish to enter fully into the life of the Church through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist? Catechumens R. / We do.

My friends, I now declare you to be members of the elect, to be initiated into the sacred mysteries at the next Easter Vigil. Catechumens R. / Thanks be to God.
Let us express our joy at this moment of election by a sign of applause.
God is always faithful to those he calls: now it is your duty, as it is ours, both to be faithful to God in return and to strive courageously to reach the fullness of truth, which your election opens up before you.
Godparents, you have spoken in favor of these catechumens: accept them now as chosen in the Lord and continue to sustain them through your loving care and example, until they come to share in the sacraments of God’s life.
Ahora los declaro miembros de los elegidos, para ser iniciados en los sagrados misterios en la próxima Vigilia Pascual. Catecúmenos R. / Demos gracias a Dios.
Expresemos nuestro gozo en este momento de elección con un fuerte aplauso.

Presentation of the Candidates // Presentación de los Candidatos
The candidates, who already share in the life of Christ through Baptism and who now seek to be received into the full communion of the Catholic Church, are presented to Cardinal Gregory. Candidates rise, and remain standing, when their parish is called. Candidates and their godparents participating via livestream should stand when their parish is called.
Los candidatos que ya participan en la vida de Cristo a través del Bautismo y que ahora desean ser recibidos en la plena comunión de la Iglesia Católica, son presentados al Cardenal Gregory. Join with us this Lent in a spirit of repentance. Hear the Lord’s call to conversion and be faithful to your baptismal covenant. Candidates R. / Thanks be to God.
Having welcomed these candidates for full communion and completion of initiation, let us express our joy for them by a sign of applause.
Sponsors, continue to support these candidates with your guidance and concern. May they see in you a love for the Church and a sincere desire for doing good. Lead them this Lent to the joys of the Easter mysteries.
