Pope Leo XIV will canonize Blesseds Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati together on Sept. 7, 2025.
The two young Italian laymen will be the first saints canonized by the new pope.
Canonization of Carlo Acutis
Carlo Acutis was born on May 3, 1991. A British-born Italian studentknown for his devotion to the Eucharist, Carlo assisted in establishing multiple websites related to the Catholic Church in Milan, one of which documented Eucharistic miracles. Carlo passed away from Leukemia at the age of 15 on October 12, 2006.
Recognized Miracles
A boy named Mattheus Vianna, who suffered from annular pancreas wasentirely and suddenly healed after his family prayed for Carlo’s intercession. This miracle was recognized by the Catholic Church in2020, leading to Carlo’s beatification.
Recognized in May 2024 and paving the way for Acutis’ canonization, a 21-year-old university student from Costa Rica named Valeria Valverde suffered a severe head injury after falling off her bicycle, requiring emergency surgery with a low chance of survival. Valeria’s mother, Lilliana, prayed for Carlo Acutis’ intercession and visited his tomb in Assisi. The same day, Valeria began breathing independently and recovered from her injuries, with the hemorrhage disappearing from her brain.
On Sept. 7, 2025, Blessed Carlo Acutis will become the first millennial saint of the Catholic Church.

Canonization of Pier Giorgio Frassati
Pier Giorgio Frassati was born in 1901 in Turin, Italy. Pier was admired for his deep spirituality, love for the poor and enthusiasm for life. A member of the Third Order of St. Dominic, he served the poor through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He died at age 24 after contracting polio.
Recognized Miracles
In 1933, Domenico Sellan, paralyzed and near death from Pott’s disease (tuberculosis of the spine), received a prayer card of Pier from a priest. He was miraculously healed after praying to Pier.
Father Juan Gutierrez tore his Achilles tendon while playing basketball as a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Father Juan experienced a miraculous healing of his torn Achilles tendon after praying a novena to Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati.
