The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ – The Feast of Corpus Christi

During the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, we celebrate the presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Also known as Corpus Christi,  the Gospel recounts the miracle of the loaves and fishes (cf. Lk 9:11-17).

In order to feed the thousands of people who came to listen to him and to ask for healing, Jesus invited the Apostles to bring him what little they had; he then blessed the loaves and fishes, and told them to distribute them to everyone. The result was astonishing: not only did everyone receive enough food, but there was an abundance left over (cf. Lk 9:17).

Beyond being a marvel, the miracle is a “sign” that reminds us that God’s gifts, even the smallest, grow whenever they are shared.

The ADW Eucharistic Procession for Immigrants during the Feast of Corpus Christi will begin at noon at Shrine of the Sacred Heart.

A solemn Eucharistic procession will take place at the conclusion of the 12:00 p.m. Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

O God, who in this wonderful Sacrament
have left us a memorial of your Passion,
grant us, we pray,
so to revere the sacred mysteries of your Body and Blood

Durante la Solemnidad del Santísimo Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo, celebramos la presencia de Cristo en la Eucaristía. También conocida como Corpus Christi, el Evangelio relata el milagro de los panes y los peces (cf. Lc 9:11-17).

Para alimentar a los miles de personas que acudieron a escucharlo y a pedir sanación, Jesús invitó a los Apóstoles a traerle lo poco que tenían; luego bendijo los panes y los peces, y les indicó que los distribuyeran entre todos. El resultado fue asombroso: no solo todos recibieron alimento suficiente, sino que hubo una abundancia sobrante (cf. Lc 9:17).

Más allá de ser una maravilla, el milagro es un «signo» que nos recuerda que los dones de Dios —incluso los más pequeños— crecen siempre que se comparten.
