12 noon: The reliquary of St. Thérèse departs for the airport to fly to Miami.
The magnificent reliquary of St. Thérèse, containing some of her bones, has visited more than 70 countries around the world since 1994. There have been great crowds and great blessings everywhere. Such continued worldwide acclaim is unprecedented in the history of the Church. St. Thérèse continues to be loved as “the greatest saint of modern times.” She wrote in her autobiography, Story of a Soul: “I would like to travel over the whole earth to preach the Gospel…”
In 1999-2000 the reliquary of St. Thérèse first came to the United States. More than one million people came to venerate her relics in 25 states. Now, twenty-five years later, it is a special blessing that the reliquary will be visiting our country during the 100th anniversary year of her Canonization and for the Jubilee Year of the Church.
