Saint Justin was born in about the year 100 near ancient Shechem, Samaria, in the Holy Land.  He converted to Christianity and became one of the earliest and most influential Christian apologists1. He spent a long time seeking the truth, moving through the various schools of the Greek philosophical tradition.

True religious freedom, the right and duty to seek the truth, has had few greater witnesses than this philosopher, apologist, and martyr. Saint Justin loved truth at a time when the world doubted its existence, and he defended his right to believe in it with his pen and with his life.
