Dahlgren Dialogue: Faith, Democracy, and the Common Good

Lessons from John Courtney Murray on Our Times

On Wednesday, March 18 at 6:00 p.m., four leading Catholic thinkers and scholars will examine the foundations, challenges, and opportunities for a principled relationship between faith and democracy in our current moment.

Cardinal Robert McElroy, archbishop of Washington, Cathleen Kaveny, Darald and Juliet Libby Millennium Professor at Boston College, Vincent Rougeau, first lay and first Black president of the College of the Holy Cross, and Rob Vischer, president of the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota will look at the contributions of Father John Courtney Murray, S.J. and our understanding of the role of faith in a democracy; at current threats and challenges facing democratic institutions; and the roles and responsibilities of leaders and people of faith to protect, revitalize, and renew our democracy in pursuit of the common good.

The dialogue starting at 6:00 p.m. EDT will be recorded and posted online for later viewing on Georgetown University’s website.
