Class of 16 Men to be Ordained Priests

Ordination Mass on Saturday, June 15, will bring largest group since 1960 into the priesthood

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sixteen men will be ordained to the priesthood by Washington Cardinal Wilton Gregory on Saturday, June 15, 2024. The new priests represent a range of backgrounds and ages, including numerous Maryland and D.C. natives, several immigrants and some who had previous careers in the military, as an emergency room physician, teaching and even one opera singer.

The Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., will begin at 10 a.m.

The class is the largest group to be ordained in The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington since 1960, when 17 priests were ordained. Since then, the number has varied from one or two some years to 10 or 12 in others. A great variety of fluid factors contribute to the size of an ordination class.
