Mass October 3 to Celebrate Life and All God’s Creation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington will celebrate all of God’s creation with an October 3 Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, opening Respect Life Month and marking the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology.

With the theme of: Created by God: A Celebration of the Dignity of Life, the Mass will combine several aspects of Pope Francis’s 2015 encyclical, Laudato Si’, around care for our common home. Co-hosted by the Archdiocese’s Offices of Life Issues, Deaf and Disabilities Ministry and Social Concerns, the liturgy will recognize that a consistent ethic of life includes human life from conception to natural death as well as wise stewardship of the earth and all its God-given resources.

The event follows the August release of the Archdiocese’s plan for implementing the encyclical: Laudato Si’ Action Plan: Embarking On A Seven-Year Journey Promoting An Integral Ecology.

Auxiliary Bishop Roy Campbell will preside.
