Fiat 500L That Transported Pope Francis During His Washington Visit to Make Its #DriveWithFrancis Debut

WASHINGTON, D.C. – At one of the liturgies during Holy Week, Cardinal Donald Wuerl, archbishop of Washington will celebrate the founding of the priesthood with the Chrism Mass at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle on Monday evening at 7 pm. Prior to that, outside the cathedral, will be the inaugural appearance of one of two Fiat 500Ls that were used by Pope Francis during his apostolic visit to Washington last September.

The two Fiats were donated in January to the Archdiocese of Washington by Pope Francis and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and arrived in early March. The Fiat 500L will be on display in front of St. Matthew’s Cathedral from 5 to 7:30 p.m., with the opportunity for people to see it and take photos with the famous vehicle.

In the ongoing effort to highlight the Holy Father’s emphasis on the charitable works of the Church and to celebrate the warm enthusiasm and excitement that welcomed the pope to Washington, the Fiat 500L will be used over the next year to focus attention on the ministries, public service, community engagement and ongoing acts of mercy of the Archdiocese of Washington and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington. #DriveWithFrancis will be used on social media so followers will know where or how the car is being used. Plans for the second Fiat 500L will be announced shortly as details are finalized.
