Archdiocese of Washington’s Associate Moderator of the Curia Accepts New Career Opportunity to Lead Catholic Services Practice at Graham Pelton Consulting

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today it was announced that Mr. William Gorman, the Associate Moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese of Washington will be leaving his position at the end of January. Mr. Gorman has accepted a position leading the Catholic Services practice of Graham Pelton Consulting where he will lead the growth of a multi-discipline consulting practice focused on the needs of Catholic Church.
Mr. Gorman began his work with the archdiocese in 2002 as a coordinator in the Office of Family Life. Over the next fourteen years, Mr. Gorman held a number of advancing positions including the Executive Director of Evangelization of Family Life, Assistant Secretary for Parish Life, Secretary for Pastoral Ministry and Social Concerns, Secretary of the Curia and Associate Moderator of the Curia.
In his time, in service to the Church of Washington, Mr. Gorman gave more than 1,000 presentations at parishes, helped re-organize the Secretariat for Pastoral Ministry and Social Concerns, and facilitated the creation of the Secretariats for Communications and Development. Beginning in 2008, Mr. Gorman applied across the archdiocese the “Indicators of Vitality,” a parish revitalization instrument which has become normative within the archdiocese. Following this highly successful initiative he was appointed General Facilitator of the 1st Synod of the Archdiocese of Washington. That effort, which garnered more than 15,000 suggestions through 116 listening sessions, was rooted in the concept of “Helping the Church of Washington become the best Church the Church calls us to be.” Those suggestions were refined into statutes that guide the Church of Washington today, and were created in collaboration with 200 members of the laity, religious and clergy
“Mr. Gorman has greatly enhanced the pastoral and administrative practices of the Archdiocese of Washington over the past fourteen years,” said Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington. “I am grateful for his effective service and dedication to this local Church.”
“It has been a great pleasure and honor for me to serve Cardinal Wuerl, the parishes and corporations of the Archdiocese of Washington, and I am thankful for the opportunity to work with so many wonderful priests, religious and laity over the years.” said Mr. Gorman. “I will always appreciate my time here and will miss my interactions with the people of the archdiocese, but I am also looking forward to this opportunity to serve the Universal Church in a new way.”
Additionally, Mr. Gorman had extensive roles in preparing for the visits of both Pope Benedict XVI in 2008 and Pope Francis in 2015. Since 2007, Mr. Gorman has served on the boards of both Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington and Victory Housing. “Bill built and strengthened the pastoral and administrative practices of the archdiocese to help advance the New Evangelization and manifest the shared vision discerned through the Archdiocesan Synod. He has accomplished much, and done so with a love for the Lord, the Gospel and the Church,” said Bishop Barry Knestout, Auxiliary Bishop and Moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese of Washington.
Cardinal Wuerl met today with the Administrative Board of the Archdiocese of Washington and Bishop Barry Knestout explained how the work of the Moderator’s Office will be accomplished in the future.
