Archdiocese of Washington’s First Secretary for Communications to Return to Private Sector

Angela Flood announced today that she will be stepping down as the Archdiocese of Washington’s first Secretary for Communications to return to the private sector. Her last day with the Archdiocese will be May 31. She will join Alexandria-based government and public affairs firm Cove Strategies effective June 15.
During her four years of service to the Archdiocese, Ms. Flood has reorganized and revitalized the communications operation of this local Church. As a result of her vision and leadership and the dedication of her team in advancing the New Evangelization, the Archdiocese has seen the successful redesign and launch of the archdiocesan and Carroll Publishing websites and newspapers, the establishment of a dominant presence across multiple social media platforms, the development of an award-winning multimedia operation, and the cultivation of a more productive relationship with the press.
Cardinal Wuerl expressed his appreciation for her service, saying, “Angela developed a strategy, based on new and exciting tools, that has expanded the ability of this local Church to proclaim the Gospel beyond traditional communication mechanisms. Her dedication to the Church is clear and we are grateful for all she has accomplished.”
“It has been an honor to serve Cardinal Wuerl and the Church for the past four years,” said Flood. “I am especially proud of the Communications Secretariat staff who pour their hearts and souls into sharing the Gospel every day. While I will miss them and all of my friends and colleagues at the Archdiocese, I am excited to be reuniting with my good friends and former White House colleagues, Matt and Mercy Schlapp, for this new opportunity.”
Effective June 1, Mr. William Gorman, Associate Moderator of the Curia for the archdiocese, will oversee the daily operations of the Communications Secretariat. A search committee has been formed to identify candidates for the position of Secretary.
