New Chief Financial Officer Hired for the Archdiocese

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Cardinal Wilton Gregory announced Aug. 19 that Liam O’Connor has been hired as Chief Financial Officer for The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington.

O’Connor, currently Chief Financial Officer of the Diocese of Savannah, Georgia, is an immigrant from County Kerry, Ireland, who began his accounting career with Price Waterhouse in Chicago. He started his service with the Diocese of Savannah in 2017 and became CFO there in 2020.

In announcing the appointment, Cardinal ­­­Gregory said, “This local Church is blessed that Liam O’Connor has agreed to step into this crucial role. His extensive experience and, equally important, his faith and spirit of discipleship, will serve this great Archdiocese well.”

The Chief Financial Officer is charged with oversight of the temporalities of the Archdiocese and its finances reflected in a range of offices involving accounting, budget, IT, risk management, investments as well as the oversight and auditing of the funds entrusted to the Archdiocese.

O’Connor will begin work in his new position on Sept. 12.
