Cardinal Robert McElroy to be Installed as Archbishop on March 11

Installation Mass Will Be Held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Cardinal Robert McElroy will be installed as the eighth Archbishop of The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington in a ceremony on March 11, 2025, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. The liturgy will begin at 1:30 p.m. EDT, with a Procession of local and visiting Cardinals, Bishops and Clergy. Mass will begin at 2 p.m.

On January 6, Pope Francis named Cardinal McElroy, Bishop of San Diego, as Archbishop, and accepted the retirement of Cardinal Wilton Gregory, Archbishop of Washington since 2019.
