Memorial of The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a beautiful feast day that takes place one week after the Solemnity of the Assumption. This day acts as an octave that completes our celebration of Mary’s heavenly journey. Just as Mary was assumed body and soul into heaven, we look to this day to celebrate her coronation as Queen of the Universe. Her queenship is not like the wealthy rulers of our world. Instead, as taught by the Church, her royalty is a royal service of pure love and mercy. She acts as a link between her resurrected Son and all of us on earth.

The Salve Regina (Hail, Holy Queen)

"Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, 
our sweetness and our hope.To thee do we cry, 
poor banished children of Eve.
To thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate, 
thine eyes of mercy toward us, 
and after this our exile, 
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary."

La memoria de Santa María, Reina, es una hermosa festividad que tiene lugar una semana después de la solemnidad de la Asunción. Este día actúa como una octava que completa nuestra celebración del tránsito de María al cielo. Así como María fue asunta en cuerpo y alma al cielo, en este día celebramos su coronación como Reina del Universo. Su realeza no se asemeja a la de los gobernantes poderosos de nuestro mundo; por el contrario, tal como enseña la Iglesia, su realeza es un servicio real de puro amor y misericordia. Ella actúa como vínculo entre su Hijo resucitado y todos nosotros en la tierra.

"Dios te salve, Reina y Madre de misericordia, 
vida, dulzura y esperanza nuestra;
Dios te salve. A ti llamamos los desterrados hijos de Eva;
a ti suspiramos, gimiendo y llorando,

Ea, pues, Señora, abogada nuestra,
vuelve a nosotros esos tus ojos misericordiosos;
y después de este destierro muéstranos a Jesús,
fruto bendito de tu vientre.
