Cardinal Wilton Gregory and Imam Sayyid M. B. Kashmiri to Engage in Online Dialogue

The discussion comes following Pope Francis’ recent historic Papal trip to Iraq and his visit with Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, March 17, Cardinal Wilton Gregory, Archbishop of Washington, will join with Imam Sayyid M. B. Kashmiri, Representative of Ayatollah Al-Sistani in the U.S., for a virtual discussion about the recent visit of Pope Francis with Ayatollah Al-Sistani in Iraq, and to discuss Catholic and Muslim relations.

This discussion will be moderated by Tamara Sonn, Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani Professor in the History of Islam and Director of the Alwaleed Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.

During his trip to Iraq, Pope Francis “underlined the importance of collaboration and friendship among religious communities so that, cultivating mutual respect and dialogue, they can contribute to the good of Iraq, the region and all humanity,” the Vatican said in a statement.
