Update as of 3:30 p.m.:

As of 3:30 p.m., parents of students at St. Michael the Archangel School in Silver Spring may pick up their children at the school. Students may not leave the school today without a parent/guardian escort. Please access Wayne Avenue from Cedar Street due to security barriers at Fenton Street. Thank you.

Initial message (2:45 p.m.):

Due to the emergency situation at the Discovery Building in downtown Silver Spring and in consultation with Montgomery County Police, St. Michael School is in lockdown status. All students are accounted for and are in their classrooms. Following the school’s safety protocols, students are being kept in the building, all doors are secured and all shades have been drawn. No one may leave or enter St. Michael School at this time.

Dismissal will not occur until the school has been notified by the authorities that students may leave the building.
