Statement of Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington, on the Death of Chuck Colson

“I am saddened to hear of the death of Chuck Colson.

Chuck was a tireless advocate for the imprisoned, and over the years of working with him, I came to appreciate his deep-rooted faith and love for the Lord which he expressed so passionately in his global ministry through Prison Fellowship.

I saw the important role his faith played in his life, particularly through the Colson Center and the evangelization efforts he spearheaded. Chuck was also a staunch ally of the Catholic Church and other faith groups in our fight for religious freedom.

I offer my prayers and sympathy to Chuck’s wife Patty, his friends and colleagues and to the many people whose lives were touched by his ministry, and I ask the Lord to grant him eternal rest.”
