President Bush Delivers Message for Catholic Schools Week

January 30, 2008

Following an event at Holy Redeemer School in the District of Columbia today, First Lady Laura Bush presented Washington Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl with a message from President George Bush sharing his greetings during Catholic Schools Week. The message reads:

“I send greetings to those celebrating Catholic Schools Week 2008.

“Our Nation’s Catholic schools play a vital role in preparing our youth to become successful scholars and responsible citizens. By fostering enduring values and insisting upon high standards for academic achievement, Catholic schools are encouraging students of all backgrounds to follow a path of virtue, compassion, and service in their pursuit of knowledge. This week is an opportunity to recognize these fine institutions for providing a spiritual and intellectual foundation for millions of children across America.

“I applaud the teachers, parents, students, school officials, and religious leaders participating in this event for your commitment to excellence in education. Your efforts strengthen the character of our Nation and help build a future in which no child is left behind.

“Laura and I send our best wishes. May God bless you, and may God bless America.”
