Opportunity Scholarships for Low-Income DC Children at Risk: Learn More

May 06, 2009

Nearly 2,000 children and parents rallied today in support of DC Opportunity Scholarships and school choice in the District of Columbia, then delivered petitions with 7,400 signatures to DC Mayor Adrian Fenty. The future of the scholarships, and the education of 1,700 children now in the program and of children in the future, is at risk after Congress voted to end funding.

Opportunity Scholarships are part of a three-sector initiative, established with local support, to strengthen education across the District of Columbia through additional federal funds for public and public charter schools and scholarships for low-income children.
