June 03, 2005

More than 350 couples from Washington, DC and suburban Maryland Catholic parishes who have been married for 25 or 40+ years, including one couple married 74 years, will say “I do” all over again at a special Mass led by Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, Archbishop of Washington:

Sunday, June 5, 2005
2:00 p.m.
Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
400 Michigan Avenue, NE, Washington, DC

The couples will renew their wedding vows during the Mass and receive a special blessing from Cardinal McCarrick. Afterwards, a reception will be held on the lower level of the Shrine where they will also receive personalized scrolls commemorating their special anniversary.

The honorees will include 19 married for 60-plus years. Almost half of the couples attending have been married for 50 or more years. Honorees include 133 couples from Montgomery County, 114 from Prince George’s County, 33 from Southern Maryland and 21 from Washington, DC. An additional 325 couples are celebrating special anniversaries this year, but will be unable to attend the service.
