Lt. Gov. Michael Steele Celebrates Reading Fun at Holy Cross Elementary School

The staff and nearly 270 students of Holy Cross elementary school dressed as their favorite book characters will welcome Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael S. Steele for a fun-filled Book Character Day:

Wednesday, March 10, 2004
8:45 a.m.-9:30 a.m.: Classroom visits
9:30 a.m.-9:45 a.m.: Student presentations and songs
Holy Cross School
4900 Strathmore Ave., Garrett Park, MD

Students will dress as characters including a dinosaur from the “The Land Before Time,” a ninja from “Night of the Ninjas” and a dog from “Go Away, Dog.” Lt. Gov. Steele will visit all of the classrooms, read to students in Kindergarten and Grade 1, and talk about the importance of reading and studying. Teachers will wear striped “Cat in the Hat” hats in honor of Dr. Seuss’ 100th birthday, which was last week (March 2).

Book Character Day is part of the first annual Holy Cross School Spirit Week, sponsored by the Student Council.

The Archdiocese of Washington is home to 109 PreK, elementary, secondary and special schools in Washington, DC and Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s counties.
