Interfaith Prayer Service Held to Pray for Victims, First Responders and Metro Employees in Wake of Metro Tragedy

June 26, 2009

Washington Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl and 11 other faith leaders from the InterFaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington held a prayer service today to remember the victims of this week’s Metro accident, their families, first responders and all affected.

The 30-minute service was held at St. Mary, Mother of God Catholic Church, just one block from Metro’s headquarters. In addition to prayers offered by the various faith leaders, Metro employee Monic Morgan sang a hymn a cappella. The service ended with “Amazing Grace,” played on bagpipes by the DC Fire Department’s Emerald Society. Approximately 100 first responders were among those who filled the historic church.

Today’s service follows a brief ecumenical prayer service held on Tuesday outside Metro’s headquarters for employees who wished to attend.
