Details Set for Archbishop Neale Elementary School Re-Opening on Tuesday

The 553 students of Archbishop Neale Elementary School, which was destroyed by a tornado on April 28, will resume classes Tuesday, May 7, 7:40 a.m. in classroom space donated by the First Baptist Church of La Plata and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in White Plains.

Parents will need to provide transportation on Tuesday and Wednesday. Charles County will provide bus service starting Thursday.

Students in Pre-K and grades 5-8 will attend class from 7:40 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in space at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4560 Padgett Road, White Plains. On Tuesday when they arrive, students will gather in the chapel for prayer and to hear from the school’s counselor. The principal, Sr. Helene Fee, IHM will be the administrator at this site.

Students in grades K-4 will attend class from 7:40 a.m.-1:45 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of La Plata, 9070 Hawthorne Road. The assistant principal, Mrs. Peggy Howard, will be the administrator at this site. Details for the first day are being worked out.

Tables and chairs are being provided on-site at the Latter-day Saints location while desks from parishes from throughout Southern Maryland were moved to First Baptist for the students there. Supplies and books have been donated by individuals, businesses and other Catholic schools.

Tonight: A Mass and reception will be held for the Archbishop Neale Elementary School community tonight, Monday, May 6, 7:00 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 3320 St. Peter Drive, Waldorf. School superintendent Thomas Moran will attend.
