Cardinal-designate Wuerl on the death of Fr. Allen Novotny, S.J.

October 27, 2010

Cardinal-designate Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington, offered the following message following the death of Rev. Allen Novotny, S.J., president of Gonzaga College High School in Washington, DC:

It was with great sorrow that I learned of the death of Father Allen Novotny, S.J., the president of Gonzaga College High School. His positive impact on Gonzaga and on the thousands of young men who have passed through the doors of the school during his 16 plus years of leadership cannot be measured.

Fr. Novotny had a strong vision for the future and a deep commitment to Gonzaga. He guided the school through significant renovations and rebuilding, while always ensuring the school remained focused on its Catholic identity and commitment to service, preparing the students to become, as was so often said, “men for others.”

May his soul rest in peace and may all of us keep in our prayers his Jesuit brothers, his family and the entire Gonzaga community.
