Bi-Lingual Job Fair: Nov. 16 at Sacred Heart School

Job Fair is One Outcome of Community Forum on Gang Violence

November 13, 2003

The Shrine of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Downtown Cluster of Congregations are sponsoring a bilingual (Spanish/English) job fair:

Sunday, November 16, 2003
2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.
Sacred Heart School Gymnasium
1625 Park Rd., NW, Washington, DC

More than 15 employers are expected to participate. Volunteers also will be on hand to translate and to provide assistance with issues such as obtaining financial assistance for college. Earlier this month, workshops to provide prospective employees with resume and interview skills were held with the assistance of Neighbors Consejo and the Latin American Youth Center at Sacred Heart church.

The November 16 job fair, as well as parenting classes and gang awareness training, are tangible outcomes of a Community Forum on Gang Violence that was held at Sacred Heart on September 16. More than 300 English- and Spanish-speaking residents from the Mount Pleasant/Columbia Heights community participated in the forum, sharing ideas for increasing safety in their community.
