Archdiocese of Washington Launches Website for Papal Visit

The Archdiocese of Washington has launched a new website,, to provide information about Pope Benedict XVI’s April 2008 visit to the archdiocese.

The Holy Father will begin his first papal visit to the United States in Washington, DC on April 15. His planned schedule includes a visit to the White House, the celebration of Mass for approximately 45,000 people at the new Washington Nationals stadium in Southeast Washington, DC and other meetings. Pope Benedict then will travel to New York on April 18 before returning to Vatican City on April 20.

The theme of the visit will be Christ Our Hope, as announced by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The new website includes the Pope’s itinerary, frequently asked questions, ticket information for the Mass, links to the organizations and sites involved with the visit and more. Materials will be updated on a regular basis.

The Archdiocese of Washington has received requests for thousands of tickets to the planned Mass at the Nationals stadium from hundreds of youth groups, parishes and individuals around the United States. Once ticket distribution is finalized, it will be announced on the new website.
