Archdiocesan World Youth Day Pilgrims Share Their Experience Via E-Mail

August 15, 2005

Young people traveling to World Youth Day with the Archdiocese of Washington’s Office of Youth Ministry are sending us periodic e-mails about their trip. The young Catholics left Washington on August 9, visiting Rome and other Italian cities before traveling to Germany and World Youth Day activities, August 16-21 in Cologne.

Pilgrims in search for the key of happiness (English and español)

Very often God chooses people to proclaim his word and lead others by examples or experiences. God has chosen ten parishioners from Our Lady of Sorrows, Takoma Park MD as well as hundreds of others to experience the love that He has for us through the World Youth Day pilgrimage. We are blessed and humbled that God has chosen us.

Italy is a country which has a lot of history and teachings for all Christians in the world. St. Peter’s Basilica reminds us of how God calls ordinary people to follow him, as was the case with St. Peter, John Paul II, all the saints and religious figures. As pilgrims on WYD 2005 we had the pleasure of attending Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica where many had the opportunity to use the very gifts God has bestowed upon them. It is unbelievable the many ways the Lord seeks us, His followers, whether through His homily, His word, or even the arts. In Italy, we re-lived through art the birth, life and passion of Christ. In these moments, God has spoken to us in hope that we find our key to happiness, a happiness not made from man, but made from the love of God.

Although we miss our friends and loved ones, this pilgrimage is allowing us to continue our quest for faith with the help of your thoughts and prayers. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience that every youth should strive to accomplish. This is a trip that not only teaches us what it means to be Catholic, but it also allows us to find ourselves and especially our faith. WE believe in one God, Father Almighty and through this pilgrimage, we are re-affirming why we choose to believe.
