Archdiocesan Superintendent Honored by Wheeling Jesuit University

Dr. Patricia Weitzel-O’Neill, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Washington, received the Distinguished Alumni Award from her alma mater, Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, West Virginia.
At an awards ceremony June 25 during WJU’s Alumni Weekend, she was honored for her commitment to improving the educational programs in the schools in the Archdiocese, her lifelong dedication to education and for promoting her Catholic faith, according to the university.
Dr. Weitzel-O’Neill graduated in 1969 from WJU with a B.A. in sociology. In 2002, she was named the Archdiocese’s Superintendent of Catholic Schools.
The Archdiocese of Washington serves nearly 33,500 students in 115 elementary, secondary, special schools, and early learning centers in the District of Columbia and Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s counties in Maryland.
