October 17, 2007
Washington Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl today welcomed the elevation of Houston Archbishop Daniel DiNardo to the College of Cardinals:
“The elevation of Archbishop Daniel N. DiNardo to the College of Cardinals by Pope Benedict XVI is a recognition of the giftedness and ability of Archbishop DiNardo and also of the important place that the Church of Galveston-Houston has in the growing Catholic population in Texas and the entire southwest United States. This appointment demonstrates the Holy Father’s care for the Church throughout the United States and the significant role that Cardinal-designate DiNardo has in the service of the Church.
“Cardinal-designate DiNardo has a keen intellect and wonderful pastoral sense that will continue to enrich the Church that he serves with such dedication. Cardinal-designate DiNardo and I have known each other and worked together for many years. Personally, I am delighted and give thanks to God for all that this appointment means, not only to Cardinal-designate DiNardo but to the whole Church.”
