Listed below are key dates for schools in the Archdiocese of Washington (Washington, DC and Montgomery, Prince George’s, Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s Counties). Schedules for the 17 Catholic high schools may vary from this list.

Aug. 26: Opening Mass for Catholic Schools, 10:00 a.m., Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, DC
Aug. 27: Schools open in Southern Maryland

September
Sept. 2: Labor Day, no classes
Sept. 3: Schools open in District of Columbia, Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties
Mid September: Applications for 2003-2004 tuition aid available at www.adw.org and from schools

October
Oct.14: Columbus Day, no classes
Oct. 26-Jan. 23: High School Open Houses (See www.adw.org for open house times)

November
Nov. 1: Holy Day: All Saints
Nov. 8: End of 1st quarter
Nov. 11: Veteran’s Day, no classes
Nov. 27: Thanksgiving break begins at dismissal

December
Dec. 2-6: Catholic high school admissions testing for Catholic school 8th graders
Dec. 7: High school admissions test (1st of 3 dates) for 8th graders not in Catholic schools, 9:00 a.m.-Noon, administered at DeMatha, Gonzaga and Good Counsel high schools
Dec. 8: Holy Day: Feast of the Immaculate Conception
Dec. 11: Deadline for Archdiocesan tuition aid applications
Dec. 14: High school admissions test (2nd of 3 dates) for 8th graders not in Catholic schools, 9:00 a.m.-Noon, administered at Elizabeth Seton, St. John’s, St. Mary’s Ryken and St. Vincent Pallotti high schools
Dec. 20: Christmas break begins at dismissal

2003

January
Jan. 1: Holy Day: Feast of Mary, Mother of God
Jan. 6: Classes resume
Jan. 11: High school admissions test (3rd of 3 dates) for 8th graders not in Catholic schools, 9:00 a.m.-Noon, administered at Archbishop Carroll, Bishop McNamara High School and Good Counsel high schools
Jan. 18: High school admissions makeup test, administered at Gonzaga College High School
Jan. 20: Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday observed, no classes
Jan. 24: End of 2nd quarter
Jan. 26-Feb. 1: Catholic Schools Week

February
Feb. 17: President’s Day, no classes

March
March 1: 8th graders notified of acceptance or non-acceptance by high schools
Early March: Archdiocesan tuition assistance notification is sent out
March 5: Ash Wednesday: Lent begins
March 17-21: Assessment of Catholic Religious Education (ACRE) testing
March 28: End of 3rd quarter

April
April 7-11: Terra Nova testing week
April 17: Holy Thursday: Easter break begins at dismissal
April 22-25: National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) convention in St. Louis
April 28: Classes resume

May
May 26: Memorial Day, no classes

June
June 13: Last day of school
June 16-20: Possible makeup days for emergency school closings
