Free to Choose Whether to Migrate or Stay

On the 109^th World Day of Migrants and Refugees, the Principal Celebrant Bishop Evelio MenjÍvar, Auxiliary Bishop of Washington, will celebrate a special Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle in Washington, DC.

The World Day of Migrants and Refugees is an occasion to express concern for different vulnerable people on the move; to pray for them as they face many challenges; and to increase awareness about the opportunities that migration offers.

“Free to choose whether to migrate or to stay” is the theme chosen by the Holy Father for the 109^th World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR). Pope Francis intends to promote a renewed reflection on a right that has not yet been codified at the international level: the right not to have to migrate or, in other words, the right to be able to remain in one’s own land. 

All are welcome to join us Sunday, September 24 at 5:30 PM ET in celebrating this Mass an the Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle.

En la 109ª Jornada Mundial del Migrante y del Refugiado, el Celebrante principal
Monseñor Evelio MenjÍvar Obispo Auxiliar de Washington celebrará una Misa especial en la Catedral de San Mateo Apóstol de Washington, DC.

La Jornada Mundial del Migrante y del Refugiado es una ocasión propicia para exteriorizar la preocupación que se tiene por las diferentes personas que son vulnerables y que se van desplazando; rezar por ellas, ya que han de hacer frente a incontables desafíos; y aumentar lo que se sabe sobre las oportunidades que ofrece la migración.

El tema escogido por el Santo Padre para la 109ª Jornada Mundial del Migrante y del Refugiado (JMR) es “Libres de elegir si migrar o quedarse“. El Papa Francisco quiere promover una reflexión renovada sobre un derecho aún no codificado a nivel internacional: el derecho a no tener que emigrar, es decir —en otras palabras—, el derecho a permanecer en la propia tierra. 

Invitamos a todos a acompañarnos el domingo 24 de septiembre a las 5:30 PM ET para celebrar esta Misa en por el de la Catedral de San Mateo Apóstol.
