Missionaries of Charity
The familiar blue and white saris of the Missionaries of Charity, like that of their founder Saint Teresa of Calcutta, are for many the defining symbol of caring for others, particularly the poorest of the poor. Since 1986 with the opening of the Missionaries of Charity Gift of Peace House, her work and ministry has continued in the District of Columbia.
“We can cure physical diseases with medicine, but the only cure for loneliness, despair, and hopelessness is love.” – Saint Teresa of Calcutta
