Training Parish Teams for Missionary Discipleship

Come with your parish leadership team to this training day focused on encountering Christ and forming missionary disciples in our parishes.

We believe the parish is the privileged place to encounter Christ and from missionary disciples. Together with your parish team you will:

  • Reflect on your personal encounter with Christ
  • Learn the thresholds of becoming an intentional disciple of Christ
  • Discuss ways your parish can help others encounter Christ
  • Spend time with your parish team developing concrete next steps

The Evangelization Conference is hosted by the Archdiocese of Washington Secretariat for Pastoral Ministry and Social Concerns, featuring keynote speaker Sherry Weddell, author of Forming Intentional Disciples, and presentations by Secretariat staff.

  • Registration will be at 8:30am with coffee and light refreshments.
  • The conference will start at 9:00am.
  • Lunch will be provided.
  • Optional Vigil Mass will be available in the church at 4:30pm.
  • ASL Interpretation will be available.
  • All presentations will be in English; simultaneous Spanish translation will be available upon request. Todas las presentaciones serán en inglés; traducción simultánea al español estará disponible a petición.

Are children welcome at the Evangelization Conference?
No. To allow for a focused experience for all participants, please do not bring children to the conference.

Clergy Study Day:
Friday, Nov. 4, with Sherry Weddell

Clergy are invited to a Study Day on “Making Disciples” with keynote speaker Sherry Weddell, author of Forming Intentional Disciples. In this Study Day you will explore intentional evangelization, the thresholds of pre-discipleship and conversion, and best practices for helping people become disciples in the parish. We welcome all leaders of parishes and Catholic organizations of the Archdiocese of Washington, including staffs, pastoral councils, finance councils, and ministry leaders. Come as a leadership team! A discount is available for teams of 8 or more.

St. Camillus Catholic Church is at 1600 St. Camillus Drive, Silver Spring, MD 20903. Ample parking is available. For public transit, St. Camillus is serviced by a number of MetroBus lines, including K6, K9, C8, and R1.

How is the conference connected to the Clergy Study Day?
The conference and Clergy Study Day are opportunities for all parish leaders – clergy and lay – to experience shared formation in fostering missionary discipleship in our parishes. Clergy are invited to participate in both events; be aware that some presentations will be repeated.

Yes, however you will not be able to register online. Please contact the Events Office at [email protected]. Include the following information for each participant: First Name, Last Name, Email, Parish (Including City), Role or Ministry in Parish, Whether special accommodations are requested (disability, ASL interpretation, Spanish translation, dietary restrictions).

About Sherry Weddell
Sherry Anne Weddell created the first charism discernment process specifically designed for Catholics in 1993. In 1997, she co-founded the Catherine of Siena Institute, an affiliated international ministry of the Western Dominican Province, and currently serves as Co-Director. Sherry has developed numerous unique formation resources that are used around the world and trained and helps lead an international team who have worked directly with over 100,000 lay, religious, and ordained Catholics in hundreds of parishes in 137 (arch)dioceses on 5 continents. Sherry’s book, Forming Intentional Disciples which came out in July 2012, is a best seller that has sold over 100,000 copies.
