For Lent, For Life:
What You Give up for Lent Changes Lives
Parishioners and students in the Archdiocese of Washington participate in CRS Rice Bowl, the Lenten spirituality program of Catholic Relief Services, each year to deepen their spiritual practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Participation in CRS Rice Bowl provides tangible assistance to our brothers and sisters in need. Thank you to all who have participated.
Seventy-five percent of contributions help the poor and vulnerable outside our country through CRS and provides clean drinking water, educates children, trains farmers in sustainable agriculture, promotes maternal and infant health, and assists small business owners. Twenty-five percent of contributions address local hunger and poverty through grants to parish food pantries.
We are now accepting applications from parish programs that address poverty and hunger for CRS Rice Bowl local grants. The application form can be viewed here and is due via email to [email protected] by October 26.
The following pantries received grants last year: St. Paul, St. Patrick’s, Our Lady Help of Christians, St. Camillus, Immaculate Conception, Jesus the Divine Word, St. Margaret of Scotland, St. John the Evangelist, St. Raphael’s, St. Bernardine of Siena, St. Martin of Tours, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Cecilia/St. Peter Claver/St. Michael, St. Jerome, St. Hugh, St. John Vianney, Shrine of the Sacred Heart, Our Lady of the Visitation, Mt.
