Statement of Cardinal Donald Wuerl on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program

Tuesday, September 5, 2017

Washington D.C. – Cardinal Donald Wuerl, archbishop of Washington, released the following statement today on the decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

“I fully support and echo the statement made by my brother bishops of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. I find it very regrettable and harmful that the Trump Administration made the decision to end the DACA program in its current form. I join those who urge that Congress moves swiftly on a permanent solution that ensures these young people can remain in the only homeland they have ever known.”

The Archdiocese of Washington is home to over 620,000 Catholics, 139 parishes and 93 Catholic schools, located in Washington, D.C., and five Maryland counties: Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s.
